An Iraqi delegation headed to Iran today to prove to them what Iran already knows; Iran is aiding and training militias to fight against the government and U.S. forces in Iraq. And this will stop Iran how? The fact of the matter is it won't. Iran has every reason to destabilize Iraq. Few in Iran have forgotten the eight year war begun by Iraq where up to a million people died. The Iraqi government is weak and is demonstrating its weakness by pleading with Iran. Within Iraq there still exist plenty of Sunnis to kill and they have the infidel to deal with. As long as these conditions continue to exist Iran has no reason to stop what they are doing.

In 1980 Iraq invaded Iran. There were several reasons for the invasion including long standing boarder disputes, religious issues, and a driving need by the Iraqi government to supplant Iran as the middle east power. After two years, Iraq lost all of the gains made and the war began to take on the aura of World War I. The two sides settled into trench warfare, with static machine gun nests, human wave bayonet charges, and even the use of chemical weapons. No target was spared and many Iranian civilians fell to Iraqi bombs, bullets and chemicals. This has not been forgotten.
The stability of the Iraqi government has been called into question not only by its people but also by the United States whose soldiers are fighting and dying to give them a chance to prove themselves. This has, sadly, not happened. The Iraqi government cannot even provide basic services to the people. They allow every cleric in the country to have a militia, non of which want a secular government, and cannot figure out why the government and citizenry are under constant attack. These militias are happy to accept the aid and assistance Iran has to offer as geopolitical lines and international borders fade in the light of Shia Islam. Now the Iraqi government has sponsored a delegation to plead the case to Iran. Iraq is in no position to do anything about the incursions and Iran knows this, so the whole delegation exists for groveling, begging, and pleading. I'm sure they'll discuss the Islamic brotherhood and whatnot, but if they go there it will only encourage Iran to continue if there exists a possibility of bringing down Iraq's secular government and imposing an Islamic government.
Iran is a Shia country under a totalitarian Islamic government. Iraq is primarily a Shia populated country but until recently, was governed by Sunnis who spared no expense in torturing and killing Shias. Iran has a vested religious interest in the destruction of Sunni Islam. I know it sounds outrageous, like Catholics and Protestants conducting open warfare in the United States attempting to impose their will on the government, but killing in the name of God seems to be a national pastime for many Islamic countries. So it will continue.
Finally, we come to the infidel. All Islam believes the infidel is an abomination. The religion can sugar coat it all they want, but when push comes to shove if the infidel will not convert, then they must die. Of course, there are a couple hundred thousand foreign troops sitting in Iraq all of them considered invaders to the middle east. Bustin' a cap in one of these troops, regardless of their religious affiliation, serves to bring them closer to God. With that many foreigners in the country it's like a open season for the pathetic jihadists.
The delegation was a mistake. It only serves to illuminate the weaknesses of the Iraqi government and will probably encourage a rise in the support and training Iran gives to the insurgents and militias.
